Reports are coming in of a 500 tonne crane belonging to the Sarens Nass joint venture overturning on Friday in Qatar while being rigged.
The reports from a reliable source claim that the operator only extended the outriggers on one side and then slewed around to pick up the counterweight and the crane went over. The crane is relatively new joining the fleet just a couple of years ago.

No other details have arisen yet but we understand that no one was seriously hurt in the incident. We will update when we hear more.

Why do you think the outriigers are needed??
It increases the tipping lines of the crane base. This is also needed when rtigging the crane, as you are adding counterweight to the rear of the crane with a shift of CoG of the crane. If the CoG goes over the tipping line, the crane will overturn.
