The AERIAL PLATFORM ASSOCIATION OF INDIA (APAOI) has been formed to create awareness, to promote, standardize, streamline and protect the interest of all its members which include owners, users, suppliers and manufacturers of Aerial Work Platforms and its ancillaries across India.
The Vision of the Association is to fulfill the objective by providing all kinds of best available support services and skill up gradation programs. The Mission of the Association is aligned with the Objective and Vision and aims at implementing various skill sets and educational programs and initiatives like customized training courses for aerial operators, awareness seminars, cost and inventory controls activity etc, on an ongoing basis.

The Aerial Work Platforms (AWP), commonly consisting of Boomlifts and Scissorlifts, entered into India only about a decade ago and the market is still in its nascent stage. It is only in India where these machines are rented out along with operators in machine owner’s scope. The only documentary proof that a rental company could provide for the operator is a driving license issued by RTO, under whose jurisdictions these machines do not fall.
All rental companies were facing a challenge on two fronts:
1) To provide training to employees to operate these machines safely
2) To provide some certification, issued by the Government of India, certifying that the operators were trained to operate these machines.
And going forward, to address this challenge APAOI got in touch with The Infrastructure Equipment Skill Council (IESC) and designed a course for Operator training and certification for AWP.

IESC is a 'Not for Profit' sustainable organization promoted by the Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturers Association ( ICEMA ) and supported by the Confederation of Indian Industry ( CII ) and funded by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under Government of India, to spearhead the skill quality of the workforce in the Infrastructure Equipment Sector with a primary focus on training and certification of operators and mechanics.
The training will mainly cover basic operations, common parts, site inspection and information about the machine. In addition to it also teaches the operators about housekeeping, necessary record maintenance and effective communication.
The FIRST of a 2-Days course was conducted in Pune on 30th & 31st May 2019 at the training facility provided by SANY and saw an overwhelming response from the rental companies and very positive feedback from all the operators who attended this training.
APAOI will promote this training through all rental companies to all the end users. A major step towards site safety
